SAN SALVADOR - A strong earthquake off the Pacific coast of Central America destabilize the region and could trigger a dangerous tsunami. "Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega declared a state of emergency because of the earthquake and storm Otto, which hit the southeast coast of the country earlier on Thursday," said a spokesman for the country.

Meanwhile in the Pacific tsunami warning center issued a tsunami warning that might mengahantam beach located within a radius of 300 km from the epicenter. El Salvador also said the government viewed the threat of tsunami waves hit the coast.

Earlier on Thursday, the Category 2 storm hit the area near the southeast coast of Nicaragua. Thousands of people have been evacuated from vulnerable coastal areas and into the shelter.
